Abstract:
Ammonia has significant impacts on biodiversity, eutrophication, and acidification. Ammonium nitrate and ammonium sulfate make up a substantial fraction of atmospheric fine particulate matter (PM2.5) that associated with many human diseases. Comparing to previous satellite instruments, the new Cross-track Infrared Sounder (CrIS) satellite instrument is able to provide ammonia observations with extreme high spatial resolution and low signal noise. This presentation will show powerful new observations of ammonia concentrations from CrIS over China, and reveal the continuously increasing trend of ammonia concentrations from 2013 to 2019 in many regions of China. We will also show the evaluation results of the CrIS ammonia observations using the surface in situ observations from AMoN-China.
