Recent trends in the use of tracers in catchment hydrology

Abstract:

Tracers have been used in hydrological studies for centuries and many advancements in our understanding of the hydrological functioning of catchments have been based, at least partly, on tracer data. The use of the stable isotopes of hydrogen and oxygen as tracers has increased dramatically after the introduction of laser-based isotope analyzers and other tracers are now used more frequently as well. This presentation will summarize some of the recent trends in the use of tracers in catchment hydrology, and highlight the findings from several selected recent studies published in Water Resources Research.
