Supplementing Virtual Citizen Science with In-Person Training: Preliminary Analysis of Workshop Efficacy During The GLOBE Zika Education and Prevention Project

Abstract:

For the GLOBE Zika Education and Prevention Project, one of the main pillars for education was in-person training workshops in the three designated focus regions around the world. The GLOBE Implementation Office, in conjunction with the National Opinion Research Center (NORC), assessed participants’ knowledge, perceptions, and opinions before the trainings, immediately after trainings, and again six to twelve months after participants applied what they learned from the trainings. This evaluation was designed to assess the effectiveness of the GLOBE Zika trainings, improve future trainings, and increase the overall impact of the Zika project and the GLOBE Program. The process began in Fall of 2019 and we have received intermediate stage results from the trainings and surveys. The initial analysis of feedback was overwhelmingly positive, with 99% of participants believing citizen science can be effective in supporting community health goals. This presentation will go into more depth about the results.
