Abstract:
Terrestrial Gamma-ray Flashes (TGFs) are bright and brief gamma-ray emission originated from the Earth's atmosphere. The Gamma-ray Bursts Polarimeter (POLAR) onboard Chinese Space Laboratory Tiangong-2, operated from September 2016 to April 2017, is a space-borne Compton polarimeter aiming to measure the polarization of Gamma-ray Burst prompt emission in the energy range of 50-500 keV. In this study, we used the Lightning-supported Identify (LI) approach to search and analyze TGFs in POLAR data. About 10+ TGFs with lightning association are identified by this method. We also derived the gamma-ray upper limit for lightnings without apparent TGF association.
