Abstract:
Terrestrial ecosystem plays an important role in global carbon cycle. Exact quantifications of terrestrial carbon flux could be a critical process to predict climate change. However, observations for evaluating terrestrial carbon flux are still limited. Although process-based terrestrial ecosystem model has been developed, their performance is not sufficient. Recently, high-resolution geostationary satellite observations have been in production, which could be used to produce better terrestrial carbon flux data. In this study, we start to develop a geostationary satellite-based terrestrial carbon flux simulator, SNU-DECO (Seoul National University Data-based ECOsystem model). SNU-DECO mainly utilizes products from HIMAWARI-8, GK-2A (GEO-KOMESAT 2A), and GK-2B data, which are geostationary satellites over East Asia. As an initial stage, we only implemented Himawari-8 data to constrain parameters of the model. In this presentation, we introduce details in model development, validation process, and high-resolution terrestrial carbon flux estimations over East Asia.
