Abstract:
Water is the most essential commodity on earth. In current scenario many people are struggling to get the required amount and suitable quality of water for their daily needs. There is not sufficient potent water available in many regions and most of the available groundwater is polluted. There is a significant volume of water in the atmosphere in the form of vapor, dust etc. and about 30 per cent of this water is lost. Dehumidification of moisture present in the atmosphere is a way of producing water from air. This system can directly transform ambient moisture into available water, & even intake water. The system uses the latent heat theory for transforming water vapor molecules into water droplets. However, this system also requires significant power consumption and supply of power is again a critical issue in these water scarce areas as they are mostly in remote or arid regions. Solar powered dehumidification system solves this problem as this whole unit can be made autonomous. Solar photovoltaic system will power the compressor and condenser unit used to convert moisture in the air to water droplets. This dehumidification system replicate the natural condensation process by simulating the dew point which allows water to be continuously generated even under low humidity conditions. Substantial amount of water can be generated per day from this unit depending upon the ambient temperature and humidity of the air. More quantity of water can be obtained when the ambient air is having with higher values of relative humidity & dry bulb temperature. The method does not create any chemical imbalances, because all the absorbed water vapor is automatically replenished with water evaporated from the ocean and other bodies of water.
