Abstract:
The Greenland Geodetic Network (GNET) is a series of 58 global navigation satellite systems (GNSS) installed in the bedrock that surrounds the ice sheet. The bulk of the network was installed between 2007 and 2009, thus providing a long time series of GNSS data for much of Greenland. At the time of installation, the network was jointly managed by Denmark and the United States. Ownership and maintenance of the network was recently transferred to the Danish Agency for Data Supply and Efficiency (SDFE), while the National Science Foundation (NSF) continues to provide support for data transfer from the deep field. The network includes power and communication infrastructure; this infrastructure could potentially support new science and instrumentation, not limited to GNSS applications. Here, we present a resource (go-gnet.org) intended to be a clearinghouse to promote international collaborations and to encourage new and innovative use of the continuous time series of GNSS data. Further, we present the details of the infrastructure of this network, with the intention of fostering ideas for expanded scientific functions of this remote network.
