Abstract:
Addressing climate change continues to require convergent research approaches to unlock new scientific discovery using transdisciplinary knowledge, methods, and expertise. One such recent effort has sought to catalog climate adaptation efforts worldwide by bringing together scientists and practitioners from a variety of backgrounds across the globe. The Global Adaptation Mapping Initiative is a global effort seeking to systematically gather, analyze, and synthesize literature on climate change adaptation to uncover important answers to key adaptation questions including: To what extent are we adapting? and, Is adaptation reducing risk? Our work has reviewed and synthesized thousands of peer-reviewed articles to develop the first systematic global assessment of empirical evidence on adaptation progress.
This presentation will highlight a subset of the findings mapped to climate adaptations across food, energy, and water (FEW) systems. We present adaptations linkages that have the potential to positively and negatively contribute to feedbacks across the FEW systems. This interdisciplinary effort showcases results and findings from a variety of fields so that we can present a discourse around a portfolio of climate adaptations and consequences as well as highlight research themes and ideas for convergent climate science.
