Lessons learned from our investments in AI For Good at Microsoft

Abstract:

In this talk, we will be discussing a few of the projects and lessons learned from our AI for Good and AI for Earth projects. As part of our lab, we are working with organizations, researchers, and nonprofits across five key areas: AI for Health; AI for Accessibility; AI for Humanitarian Action; AI for Earth; and AI for Cultural Heritage. We will discuss how the areas can complement each other and provide examples. Even though the problems of crop detection using satellite data and tumor detection cannot be more different, from a pure computer vision perspective, they are the same problem. We will talk about the most common challenges and the lessons learned we had from our first year in this field. We will also talk about how our technology is helping with COVID-19 and different other areas.
