Abstract:
NASA’s Global Imagery Browse Services (GIBS) is in the process of migrating their vector data from raster tiles to Mapbox Vector Tiles (MVTs). MVTs are becoming ubiquitous in the world of web mapping. Serving data in place of pixels for each feature presents numerous new visualization opportunities as well as various new challenges to overcome. This presentation will cover some of the hardships these teams encountered, the techniques used to overcome those barriers, and it will give you a glimpse at how the user experience was enhanced.
