Abstract:
Utilizing 10 years of THEMIS satellite observations from 2007 to 2017, we identified all ECH wave events near dipolarization fronts. We report, for the first time, observations of ECH waves at relatively small wave normal angles behind dipolarization fronts. Our statistical results demonstrated that these small wave normal angle ECH waves are frequently observed. These small wave normal angle ECH waves are often observed with cold, dense electrons and located away from the plasma sheet. We then confirmed theoretically that ECH waves with relatively small wave normal angle can be excited by electron beams under plasma sheet conditions.
