Beyond We, My Selfie AND Why?

Abstract:

Telling the “story" of the story behind the story, is a completely different story. What relational social components, necessary technical requirements, and artistic expression need to be communicated to the student, the witness, the recorder of events, impacts, outcomes and relevant pathways of new inquiry? We teach the use of media by training STEM students from rural, and native communities in technology. The use of video, IOS, audio and graphic equipment; however, more challenging is the development of the community storyteller, whose lens, perspective, and output match the voice, sentiment, and need of the community. The initiating opportunity and availability of the potential students rarely controllable by the education institution and/or the service deliverer. The complexities involved in communicating the relational aspects of this work are frequently underestimated, resulting in foreseeable impacts to the final product; suggesting the need for STEAM.
