Abstract:
WDS 19315-2053 is a triple star system located in the constellation Sagittarius with a relatively terse observational history, spanning 17 observations with varying spectrographic techniques over the last 192 years (since 1828). Historical Data for the system was requested from Brian D Mason from the US Naval Observatory, and some observations were omitted before further interpreting the data using Richard Harshaws Historical Data Analysis Plot Tool for excel, surmounting to 14 usable historical observations. For our research, multiple images were requested via the The Las Cumbres Observatory observation portal (LCO), and we received visual data for the system taken with a 0.4 meter telescope with a variety of different filter and exposure combinations, 10 images for each filter and exposure combination. The visual data was then analyzed utilizing the astrometry tool “Astroimage-J”, and 25 measurements were made for each image. These measurements were further analyzed and compared to the historical observations in order to develop the consensus that the stars in this system are not gravitationally bound, due to the discrepancies in Arc Length and Position Angle over the years of observations, and also from the lack of conformity of the stars observed magnitude for the expected Blackbody Radiation resulting from the temperature differences between the bodies. Our hypothesis regarding the lack of gravitational interaction of objects within this system is in no way a clear determination of the phenomena occurring in this triple system, and further temporal analysis of the system is required for a more accurate determination.
