How warmer times and different rain will change where our state's trees can live

Abstract:

The world is changing because of humans. We put lots of stuff into the air, and over many years, that causes things like warmer days and more or less rain. I want to understand (1) how those changes change the trees and fires in our state, like how much they can be in different places, and (2) what we can do to help.

We have so many facts and numbers about where trees live now. We know where big trees or small trees can live, or where many trees or only a few trees can live. That has to do with how warm and wet it is in different places. We also have lots of numbers about how warm and wet or dry it will be many years from now.

I bring together all those kinds of numbers and use computers to make good guesses about what our state will look like many years from now. When it gets warm, many of the trees may die, especially if we don't help them move to the right places. And, if they die, they're easier to burn, and that means we might have more fires.

We want to have more trees to help save the world, but having more trees might be harder than we think. I'm helping to understand how sure we are about where we can or can't have trees many years from now. That way, people will know where the best places are to put trees now, or where we need to try even more to take care of. Putting the right numbers and kinds of trees in the right places will help us save the world from getting too much warmer.
