Energetic Particles Observations Near the Sun from the Integrated Science Investigation of the Sun (ISʘIS) Instrument Suite on Parker Solar Probe

Abstract:
Since its launch in 2018, NASA’s Parker Solar Probe (PSP) mission has been exploring the inner heliosphere. The most recent perihelion was at ~19 million km (~27 solar radii), closer to the Sun than any previous spacecraft. The instruments of the Integrated Science Investigation of the Sun (ISʘIS) suite are making exciting new observations of the energetic particle populations in the very inner heliosphere. These measurements are vital to separating the effects of transport from acceleration, and over the life of Parker, will generate new insights into how energetic particle populations evolve between their acceleration location and where they are observed. Although the Sun has been very quiet, there are a number of very small ion and electron events that would be unobservable if the Sun were active. Results from ISʘIS on these events, as well as an overview of other ISʘIS observations, will be presented.
