Abstract:
Most studies of the contribution of sunspots on the total solar irradiance (TSI) are based on the area of sunspots of constant average darkness. However, the average darkness (contrast) depends on the relative area of the umbra, the dark "core" of many sunspots. We will present results from a study of photometric observations, that measure the actual contrast of sunspots and their effect on TSI. This work is partially supported by NASA grant 80NSSC18K1328.
