Abstract:
Hyperspectral Infrared sounding in a cubesat will allow for measurements at multiple times of day. The Cubesat Infrared Atmospheric Sounder (CIRAS) instrument measures top of atmosphere radiance from 4-5 microns and contains 600 individual channels. By utilizing the Goddard Earth Observing System (GEOS-5) to create a globally cloudy atmosphere as input into the Community Radiative Transfer Model (CRTM) we have simulated CIRAS spectra. An eigenvector regression was built from the set of CIRAS spectra and cloudy atmospheres. Specifically, we retrieve temperature, surface temperature, and water vapor. The regression retrieval is then applied to WRF simulations at 1.3 km, which are spatially convolved to the CIRAS spatial resolution and proposed satellite scan pattern. We will present the results of the eigenvector regression retrieval and discuss the future of the CIRAS satellite mission concept.
