Anti-Phase Relationship Between OLR in Western Pacific Warm Pool and the Equator

Abstract:
Linkage between the 11-year solar activity especially UV range and climate change, cloud variation, of the Earth has been suggested by monthly or yearly averaged data, even though short periodic variation could modulate longer periodic phenomena. In pervious study, 27-day variation of Outgoing Longwave Radiation (OLR) during solar maximum year was found by Takahashi et al. (2010). Moreover, anti-phase relation between lightning around Marine Continent and OLR around Western Pacific Warm Pool region (typhoon-rich area) was found by Sanmiya et al. (2013). Also, there are phase relation between lightning around Marine Continent and OLR around the Equator (typhoon-pool area). Basically, there seems seesaw relation between OLR in Western Pacific Warm Pool and OLR in the Equator, however not sure it is because of Madden-Julian Oscillation or not.

Motivation of this study is that clarifying the phase relation of about one-month periodic variation of OLR in Western Pacific Warm Pool and the Equator whether they have seesaw relation or Madden-Julian Oscillation. We have divided the Equator into eleven area for clarifying whether that is seesaw relation or Madden-Julian Oscillation.

We have selected spikes of OLR and data of OLR from -20 to +20 day from each spike, also plied up those data. Then, calculated three duration, 1) average of all duration; 1974/06-2019/12 which covers from solar minimum year of cycle 20 to cycle 21 to solar minimum year of cycle 24 to cycle 25, 2) average of solar maximum year and 3) average of solar minimum year.

We will discuss about results of variations of each area during each duration whether they had seesaw relation or Madden-Julian Oscillation.
