Abstract:
Floods impact a series of interconnected urban systems including power grid and transportation networks, surface water and groundwater, sewerage and drinking water systems, inland navigation and dams, and several other systems, all of which are intertwined with the socioeconomic and public health sectors. The Urban Flooding Open Knowledge Network (UF-OKN) is an open and shared infrastructure that provides an information backbone for owners, operators, and consumers of various urban systems during flooding. This talk will demonstrate the design, development, and implementation of the Urban Flooding Open Knowledge Network (UF-OKN), a platform to integrate, generate and disseminate actionable information for flood prediction, response, mitigation, and prevention. We will also present a few preliminary prototypes that highlight how operational forecasts from the national (NWM) and local (ICPR) hydrologic models can be related to urban systems through their topologic, geographic, and semantic relationships. It is envisioned that the UF-OKN will be accessible and beneficial to a diverse group of constituents from the public to federal agencies through their device of choice.
