Characterization of Selected Coal Samples of Anambra Basin in the lower benue Trough in Nigeria.
Abstract:
Three major geochemical analytical methods were carried out on the Samples.Inductively Coupled Plasma Mass Spectrometry (ICP-MS) was Carried out to determine the relative concentration of the trace elements and heavy metals.The relative percentage of the element in each sample was determine the morphological,topographical and Compositional information of the coal samples.
Results from the ICP-MS analysis reveal that the levels of trace metals in the sample were low,which suggest that they were low matured and are marine/terrestrial sources coals.Results also show that siderophile elements are the most abundant metals,which indicate the possibility of the occurrence of iron bearing minerals like perlite,siderite and ilemenite in the study aare.
This Suggests the the ash residue of this coal could be a very good source of these metals and can also be use to Manufacture some other chemicals.
