Advances in the Occurrence, Fate, Transport, Transformation, and Remediation of Contaminants in Aquatic Environments
Advances in the Occurrence, Fate, Transport, Transformation, and Remediation of Contaminants in Aquatic Environments
Session ID#: 117453
Session Description:
Both emerging contaminants (e.g., PFAS, micro- and nano-plastics, engineered nanomaterials, pharmaceutics and personal care products, and endocrine disrupting compounds) and conventional contaminants (e.g., heavy metals, radionuclides, nutrients, organics, and pathogens) have garnered great concerns since they are potentially toxic, persistent, mobile, bioaccumulative, and hard to treat in aquatic environments. This session aims to provide a platform for academic, industrial, governmental, and other-related communities to disseminate and discuss the recent advancements, challenges, and opportunities on the investigations of occurrence, fate, transport, transformation, and remediation of both emerging and conventional contaminants. This multidisciplinary session welcomes lab-scale, field-scale, and modeling work on:
- Contaminant sampling technologies, instrumentation, and quantification
- Contaminant occurrence and source zone evaluation
- Contaminant fate, transport, and cotransport in aquatic environment (vadose, critical, and saturated zones)
- Contaminant transformation, bioaccumulation, impacts, and risks to wildlife and human
- Contaminant remediation using both conventional and innovative approaches including treatment train technologies
