Facilitating effective co-produced knowledge of cold region change
Facilitating effective co-produced knowledge of cold region change
Session ID#: 117844
Session Description:
Cold regions are transforming under climate change. Consequently, the aquatic and terrestrial ecosystems, which are home to many indigenous communities, will be greatly influenced with impacts on health, safety, subsistence, and livelihoods. To support science-informed strategies concerning climate impact assessment and adaptation, Indigenous communities, scientists, and stakeholders need to collaborate closely. As scientists increasingly recognize the need to closely involve Indigenous Peoples in research, there is both responsibility and need to discuss best practices, considerations and concerns regarding knowledge co-production. In this session, we provide a platform open to any perspective, background and discipline to present cold region studies on the topic of co-production or using co-production and foster in-depth discussions concerning knowledge co-production with Indigenous Peoples. We hope these presentations will provide ideas and guidance to conduct more meaningful and culturally attuned research while providing more actionable and equitable solutions to confront the challenges posed by climate change.
