Risk, impact and communication of compound climate extremes

Session ID#: 118372

Session Description:
Compounding occurrences of climatic extremes amplifies the impact of individual climatic extremes. However, understanding the risk of compound climatic extremes in a changing climate remain limited. This is even more challenging to communicate the compounding risk of these climatic extremes to various stakeholders and policy makers. To enhance the resilience of our community to compound climate extremes, in-depth understanding and a comprehensive assessment of the risk of compound climatic extremes are warranted.

We seek abstract submissions across disciplines and scales that investigate the following aspects of risk assessment of compound climatic extremes: detection and attribution analysis; impacts of climate change; assessment of potential predictability and prediction skill; descriptive analysis of social response and political governance; development of effective risk communication tools.
