Meet Your JEDI Goals through I Was a Kid: Opening Pathways for Young People to Science Work Through Visual Storytelling (Comics) about Careerists Representing Diversity.

Session ID#: 118570

Session Description:
I Was a Kid is a new science comic project designed to inspire new audiences and bring a fresh cohort of young people into science-related careers. Comics -- visual stories -- are used to portray science careerists who represent diversity in background, race, religion, learning style, sexuality, gender, and physical or mental ability. The session will present the proof of concept of this work, incorporating capsules of profiles created in partnership with science institutions working to meet their own JEDI goals (justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion).

At previous meetings, Karen Romano Young, a NSF Antarctic Artists and Writers participant, presented her science comic series #AntarcticLog and took part in panels on the future of the cryosphere and on the synthesis of science and art.
