Geochemical, geophysical, and geomorphological expressions of lithospheric removal and its influence on early Earth through modern geodynamic processes

Session ID#: 118766

Session Description:
Lithospheric removal involves a variety of processes that range in spatial extent from large-scale lithospheric foundering to small-scale drips. Expressions of lithospheric removal can take many forms and are understood using a variety of geoscience disciplines including, but not limited to, the geochemistry of lavas and their xenolith cargo, shallow and deep geophysical observations, and geomorphic changes in response to lithospheric detachment. The broader implications of lithospheric removal have applications to the dynamic evolution of the Earth, from ancient to modern, as well as other planetary bodies. This session aims to highlight new and innovative research from the diverse fields that investigate lithospheric removal, uniting them into a common framework that will further our understanding of this geological phenomena. We encourage submissions from a variety of disciplines investigating the causes and effects of lithospheric removal.
