First Magnetic Observatory of Honduras (MAGHO)

Session ID#: 119978

Session Description:
The National Autonomous University of Honduras (UNAH) is undertaking the First Magnetic Observatory of Honduras (MAGHO). Five sites have being evaluated from 2018 until now: Piligüín, in Tegucigalpa (TEG); Danlí, in the eastern part of Honduras; Rosario, at the north of TEG; the UNAH campus in TEG; La Ceiba, in the Caribbean Coast.

The INTERMAGNET Digital Geomagnetic Observatories group is providing with the instrumentation for continous measurement of the geomagnetic field vector and its perturbations. It is expected that MAGHO will become a member of the INTERMAGNET global network.

UNAH has received support from the Magnetic Observatory of the University of Coimbra, Portugal; the Teoloyucan Observatory, Mexico; the National Observatory of Brazil, the Santa Helena Observatory, Costa Rica; the Eskdalemuir Observatory in Scotland, that have provided or offered traineeship in magnetic observatories, instrumentation installation and test, data acquisition and treatment. We want to stablish collaboration with more observatories and institutions.
