Polar Geothermal Heat Flow: Estimation and Ice Sheet Interactions

Session ID#: 120304

Session Description:
Geothermal heat flow is a critical, however, poorly constrained parameter for Antarctic and Greenland ice sheet models. In recent years discussion regarding the merits of various approaches to model heat flow from solid Earth geophysical data has cumulated in converging results from empiric methods and measurements of the geothermal gradient in the ice. We welcome contributions that progress this research area, including those that discuss the impact of topography and subglacial hydrological conditions and other aspects of how the next generation of heat flow models could be more robust in higher resolution to meet the requirements of regional ice sheet models. We further welcome contributions across the wide range of modelling and data-oriented approaches to better understand the cryosphere and lithosphere thermal properties and working assumptions for heat flow studies.
