Regional climatic responses to global warming of 1.5ºC

Session ID#: 120336

Session Description:
The probability of limiting global warming to 1.5ºC is increasing as more and more countries have committed carbon neutrality around the mid-21st century. Thus it is urgent to study the regional climatic responses to such a low warming, especially for the monsoon systems involving high population density and complex air-sea interactions. This session aims to explore regional climatic responses to global warming of 1.5ºC, and to examine their differences at distinct pathways and for varied warming levels. The main topics include, but are not limited to: (1) Responses of monsoon systems to 1.5ºC and/or 2ºC warming; (2) Changes in interannual, decadal, and multi-decadal variabilities and their impacts on regional climate under low global warming; (3) Projections of climatic extremes and the associated uncertainties due to varied pathways (transient, stabilized, or overshooting), different warming levels (2ºC or warmer), and/or distinct modeling tools (RCMs, GCMs, CMIP6, HAPPI and so on).
