Geophysics and Archaeology: From Prospection to Archaeomagnetism
Geophysics and Archaeology: From Prospection to Archaeomagnetism
Session ID#: 120378
Session Description:
Archaeological geophysics are nowadays considered as an independent branch of science and several geophysical techniques are widely applied in archaeology, offering information about the extension and stratigraphy of archaeological sites, detecting and describing underearth archaeological structures, and investigating the technology and chronological frame of archaeological artifacts, structures and discoveries. Such techniques, ranging from magnetic prospection, electric resistivity tomography, ground penetrating radar to rock magnetism and archaeomagnetic dating, are continuously evolving offering an indispensable toolkit for archaeological research, complementary to the archaeological survey and excavation. This session welcomes contributions related to all geophysical approaches applied to archaeology with particular attention to experimental techniques, data acquisition and processing as well as case studies and recent applications.
