Understanding bedforms across a range of scales and environments

Session ID#: 120523

Session Description:
Bedforms are generated by the action of fluid moving over a mobile sediment surface which in turn influences the flow and how sediment is transported. Bedforms occur in a wide range of environments, including: deserts, rivers, estuaries, pyroclastic currents, and turbidity currents. The depositional products of bedforms may provide clues to the movement of wind and water across ancient, otherwise unknown, landscapes. Understanding of the links between flow, sediment transport, and bedform morphodynamics can also aid how we can interpret and manage contemporary environments.

This session invites contributions regarding all aspects of the complex interactions between flow, sediment transport, bedform morphodynamics, and their resultant depositional products across a range of scales, environments, and methods -- from modelling to laboratory flows and field quantification. Additionally, this session enthusiastically welcomes contributions that bridge bedform dynamics across earth and planetary surfaces.
