Earth System Interactions and Implications for Geohealth
Earth System Interactions and Implications for Geohealth
Session ID#: 120730
Session Description:
Understanding multiple and complex interactions between atmosphere, land, oceans is essential to advance knowledge on critical geohealth issues, including infectious disease outbreaks, health and safety impacts of airborne and waterborne pollutants, and pathogens. In this session, we seek observational and modeling studies of key processes in the Earth system and how these processes interact to affect human and ecosystem health. Topics of interest include but limited to: 1) linkages between land change, climatic variability, atmospheric composition, and human health, 2) field measurements and satellite remote sensing of land surface processes, aerosols, and other key Earth system components directly related to human health, 3) natural and human disturbance effects (e.g., dust, wildfire, urbanization) on airborne and waterborne pathogens and their implications on human health, 4) health effects of human exposure to naturally-occurring Earth materials, and 5) novel applications of existing data sources and convergence-based research approaches to geohealth issues and challenges.
