Emissions and Air Quality in Africa
Emissions and Air Quality in Africa
Session ID#: 120919
Session Description:
Many regions in Africa have high concentrations of atmospheric pollutants and particulate matter, related to both anthropogenic activities and natural sources such as Sahel and Saharan desert dust, biogenic, as well as biomass burning emissions. Air pollution is therefore an emerging serious environmental problem in Africa, which can be mitigated by the implementation of adequate emission regulations policies.
In this session, surface in-situ measurements, satellite retrievals, field campaigns, model simulations including data assimilation, as well as strategies to monitor and understand atmospheric composition in Africa will be discussed. We invite abstracts discussing observation datasets, surface emissions, physical and chemical processes, modeling studies, integrative assessments in this region of the world.
