Experimental and Computational Developments in Modeling Geological CO2 Storage

Session ID#: 121133

Session Description:
Dire predictions of global climate change call for drastic action. CO2 geological storage is expected to have a significant role in reducing carbon emissions – an essential step in mitigating climate change. Safe and efficient implementation of this technology requires understanding the physical processes occurring when CO2 is injected into subsurface reservoirs (e.g., deep saline aquifers) and accurate modeling. This session will present recent advances in modeling CO2 geological storage. Processes may include flow, convection, dissolution, geochemical reactions, geomechanics and more. Both experimental and computational investigations on various scales, spanning from core samples to reservoir scales, are included.
