Applying a OneHealth framework to climate change and health: soil and water quality, sustainable food systems, biodiversity, animal and human health

Session ID#: 121155

Session Description:
Climate change-related stresses, including those associated with extreme heat, wildfires, droughts, and floods adversely affect global ecosystems. Extreme events disrupt the health and wellbeing of diverse populations, often with varying adverse effects in established and under-resourced communities.

Fostering convergence science by leveraging multidisciplinary, interactive partnerships among geoscientists, biologists, biomedical researchers, environmentalists, industry, policy and citizen advocacy groups is essential to effectively meet these challenges with sustainable solutions.

Trans-disciplinary topics regarding climate change vulnerabilities include, but are not limited to:

  • State-of-the Art analytical soil and water quality assessments; evaluation of contamination levels following extreme climate events
  • Human health, biotic and abiotic factors, environment-linked diseases, bio-stress and adverse outcome pathways e.g., DNA damage, reproductive effects
  • Farm Animals, health and fertility of livestock
  • Wildlife and companion animal health
  • Damage to ecosystems; loss of biodiversity
  • Soil quality, nutrient depletion, contamination, crop production and yield
  • Floods, water runoff, soil erosion
  • Infections and vector-borne diseases
