Drivers and Mechanisms of Terrestrial Water Cycle Changes at Global and Regional Scales

Session ID#: 121255

Session Description:
Global warming, land-atmosphere interactions, land-use change, and direct human interferences affect the water cycle at global and regional scales. It is a challenge to quantify the impacts of climate changes on hydrology and water resources because significant uncertainties exist in projected changes in climate. Human water management has profoundly altered the Earth’s hydrological cycle and water resources demands. The absence of the human fingerprint of water management results in unrealistic simulations of the water cycle. The session seeks to bring the latest advances in climate modeling, network measurements, statistical techniques, and theoretical underpinning of the spatiotemporal variability and changes in the water cycle at global and regional scales. We invite presentations from the latest assessment of the CMIP6 climate models and Large Ensemble experiments. The long-term observational study combined with hypothesis-driven climate modeling experiments are especially encouraged.
