A Moonshot Ambition: Creating a Globally Integrated infrastructure to Find, Access, Interoperate and Reuse Earth and Environmental Science Data to address Global Challenges.

Session ID#: 121360

Session Description:
Globally societies are facing multiple complex and interlinked challenges including climate change, sea-level rise, water and food security, uncontrolled spread of infectious diseases or sustainable development of our natural resources. Environmental and Earth sciences potentially have a significant role to play in solving these challenges, but requires integration of globally distributed data, software, models, workflows and tools from multiple disciplines and repositories to unlock their collective potential to resolve these challenges. This convergence is best coordinated by large-scale research infrastructures (e.g., EOSC, ENVRI, EarthScope, ESIP, AuScope, etc.) whose projects are already developing innovative FAIR data, software, workflows and models. We urgently need to globally coordinate these efforts.

This session solicits papers from researchers working at the programme, project, or group level that demonstrate results in achieving the ambition of a global Earth and environmental research infrastructure commons, maximising the potential to contribute to known (and unknown) global challenges.
