Interactive Visualizations of Magnetic Reconnection: State-of-the-Art Spacecraft Observations and Simulations

Session ID#: 121485

Session Description:
This session presents the opportunity for visualizing results from state-of-the-art spacecraft missions and simulations to elucidate both the micro- and macro-physics of magnetic reconnection within the natural laboratories of Earth's magnetosphere and heliosphere. The unprecedented spatiotemporal resolution of the four Magnetospheric Multiscale (MMS) spacecraft, and the record-breaking proximity to the sun (~0.1 AU) achieved by the successfully launched Parker Solar Probe (PSP), have set the heliospheric stage for a revolutionary era of magnetic reconnection research. MMS observations of magnetopause and magnetotail reconnection, and PSP measurements relevant to solar wind reconnection, will be presented in concert with modern simulation predictions. Creative presentations of reconnection concepts and spacecraft data analysis (e.g., utilizing data from MMS, PSP, Cluster, THEMIS, etc.) are encouraged to best communicate the discoveries of these ground-breaking missions.

Abstracts for this session are planned to utilize AGU's eLightning format, though traditional posters may also be incorporated depending on availability.
