Advances of Remote Sensing Theory on Terrestrial Ecosystems: Modeling, Inversion, and Applications
Session ID#: 121773
Session Description:
Remote sensing has been increasingly widely used in the monitoring of terrestrial ecosystems, e.g., in the fields of carbon cycle, precision agriculture, biodiversity, ecological disturbances, etc. Theoretical basis for measuring vegetation properties using the reflected, emitted and scattered radiation, particularly radiative transfer, is the core of vegetation remote sensing science. It plays as an irreplaceable role in physically interpreting remote sensing products, bridges the gap among multi-scale measurements, and serves as the basis for vegetation properties retrievals. Additionally, the recent advances have extended the spectral range from visible/near-infrared to solar-induced fluorescence (SIF), thermal and microwave, the target scene has been extended from 1D to 3D with rugged terrains and heterogeneous surfaces, and the use of LiDAR has enabled accurate characterization of 3D complex vegetation structure.
The session welcomes abstracts that relate to any theoretical aspect of remote sensing of vegetation, including but not limited to 1) radiative transfer theory/modeling in all wavelengths and vegetation property retrievals; 2) algorithms and methods for integrative analysis of disparate remote sensing data; 3) use of these theoretical advances for the improved vegetation monitoring.
