GRACE / GRACE-FO Science in Terrestrial Hydrology

Session ID#: 121964

Session Description:
The science utilization of Gravity Recovery and Climate Experiment (GRACE) and GRACE-Follow On (GRACE-FO) satellite measurements has provided unique insights into the mechanisms and processes of terrestrial water storage change from regional to global scales. However, there are still many significant opportunities for innovative applications of gravity for monitoring changes in water storage and the associated causes and impacts in the Earth system. This session invites presentations from studies that advance or enable the utilization of the 15+ year GRACE record and current GRACE Follow-On measurements in combination with models and/or observations to: 1) demonstrate utility in measuring changing water resources such as groundwater, soil moisture, or snow, 2) improve understanding of water cycle extremes such as droughts and floods, 3) advance numerical modeling and data assimilation applications, and 4) explore new interdisciplinary directions. Presentations across scales are welcome, preferably where new thought and/or new methodological approaches have been applied.
