Advancing Water Resilience in a Changing Climate: The Water Resilience Assessment Framework
Advancing Water Resilience in a Changing Climate: The Water Resilience Assessment Framework
Session ID#: 122451
Session Description:
Traditional sustainability measures often use long-established targets as standards of success and failure (e.g., water use efficiency and accessibility). Climate uncertainties undermine these targets, and there is a need to assess water system resilience in a more comprehensive way that allows multi-stakeholder engagement and shared vision on the desired outcome. In response, we developed the Water Resilience Assessment Framework (WRAF), a holistic framework to diagnose, assess, and measure water resilience using a systematic approach. The session will foster a provocative dialogue around WRAF for individual and coordinated action with outcomes that extend our current approach from water sustainability to resilience. We will challenge participants to see beyond traditional water management notions—to incorporate economies and ecosystems, adaptability and transformation—while meeting the needs of current and future generations and present examples of how WRAF can enable resilient action within a wide set of sectors and existing frameworks.
