Advances in Understanding Climate, Vegetation, Soil and Topographic Controls on Hydrologic Patterns, Processes and Functions at the Watershed and Larger Scales

Session ID#: 122852

Session Description:
Watershed hydrologic and ecological responses to the changing environment are subject to a variety of climate, ecological, pedological and topographic controls and their interactions. The overall watershed responses often exhibit as seemingly simple patterns, yet our understanding of the underlying processes, interactions and governing laws are largely lacking. Despite the advances over the past decades, many questions remain, for instance, how does vegetation adapt to and, at the same time, regulate water, energy, and nutrient dynamics. This session invites contributions relevant to spatiotemporal interactions among climate, water, soil, and vegetation and their effects on the hydrologic and ecological responses at the watershed and/or large scales. Specific topics include but not limited to 1) data-driven analyses based on the remote-sensing and/or ground-truth observations; 2) model-driven analyses ranging from simple mathematical to physically based complex models; 3) comparison between energy- and water-limited systems; 4) comparison between natural and managed systems.
