Open-source software for near-surface geophysics and its applications
Open-source software for near-surface geophysics and its applications
Session ID#: 122971
Session Description:
Near-surface geophysics uses a collection of methodologies that can provide spatial coverage and sampling for characterizing properties and processes of Earth’s surface and subsurface. With increasing complexity and volumes of geophysical data, the need for data integration and computations across disciplines are exponentially increasing. As a result, it is increasingly challenging for individuals within the geoscience community to be equipped with computational ability necessary to manipulate such large and complex datasets. Open-source software for near-surface geophysics can play an important role in bridging this gap and facilitating use of geophysical data/methods to help solve important scientific and societal problems. In this session, we request abstracts focusing on: (1) open-source software development for any geophysical techniques focused on problems including, but not limited to ,seismic, potential fields, electromagnetics, and remote sensing; and/or (2) applications of the open-source software packages for studies applied to environmental, geological, or hydrological problems.
