Gender and Social Inclusion in Climate Research and Services
Gender and Social Inclusion in Climate Research and Services
Session ID#: 123122
Session Description:
Women and children, indigenous peoples, the aging, those in poverty, and other marginalized populations are particularly vulnerable to climate change. Yet geospatial services are rarely designed to consider the different ways in which these populations are affected by, and react, respond to, and recover from climate-related shocks. This gap stems from a reluctance and lack of recognition of the importance of considering such differential impacts and from a lack of gender and socially disaggregated data to source these services.
This session will showcase climate research that addresses this gap by considering gender and marginalized populations in the design, delivery and impact assessment of services. We welcome papers that use remote sensing and or Geographic Information Systems (GIS) to address development issues particular to women and marginalized populations. These papers, at the forefront of climate services development, will showcase replicable methods for gender and social inclusion in research and applications.
