Inversion and Uncertainty Quantification in the Geosciences

Session ID#: 123398

Session Description:
Uncertainty is present in every geophysical problem, from seismic inversion to storm surge modeling. Quantifying this uncertainty is imperative to assessing and understanding the results of geophysical inverse problems. This session will cover advances in uncertainty quantification for a broad range of inverse problems. We invite submissions for all methods for uncertainty quantification (UQ) in the inverse problem process, including (but not limited to) stochastic methods like Markov chain Monte Carlo methods, deterministic inversion methods that yield uncertainty information, surrogate modeling to reduce the computational expense of uncertainty quantification methods, and other UQ methods. Talks may cover any aspect of uncertainty quantification for any application in geophysics.
