Finance as a Tool for Building Water Resilience: The MDB Water Resilience Community of Practice
Session ID#: 123466
Session Description:
Finance can be a tool for building climate resilience and driving change through targeted spending. Innovative financial transactions can be mechanisms to test new insights and define new expectations, which can then be mainstreamed into programs and projects. Multilateral development banks (MDBs) are uniquely situated to promote, drive, and develop novel approaches to climate finance and investment, building climate resilience. In particular, the water sector is well-positioned to strengthen and mainstream water resilience through large annual expenditures—several billion USD globally—and to share lessons and insights from their work over the past decade in order to implement within their own programs as well as amplify them more broadly. This session will present an initial review of the MDB water resilient landscape—how does the water sector mainstream resilience through new and innovative financial mechanisms, projects, and processes—and potential focus areas for the coming decade
