Zooming in to see the big picture: Using nano- to micro-scale observations to better understand tectonic processes

Session ID#: 123512

Session Description:
Advances in microanalytical techniques now allow us to quantify the mechanics, kinematics, rates, and timing of dynamic processes across the lithosphere. In this session, we invite micro- to nano-analytical case studies from the microstructural, metamorphic, and geochronological communities, as well as breakthroughs in method development. The goal is to discuss recent advances, challenges, and future directions of micro- and nano-analytical techniques, and to highlight studies where these techniques have been used to understand complex and dynamic tectonic processes.
Co-Organized:
  • MR - Mineral and Rock Physics
Index Terms:

3994 Instruments and techniques [MINERAL PHYSICS]
8030 Microstructures [STRUCTURAL GEOLOGY]
8118 Dynamics and mechanics of faulting [TECTONOPHYSICS]
