Experiential Learning Models in the Geosciences
Experiential Learning Models in the Geosciences
Session ID#: 123683
Session Description:
Learning by doing offers participants new experiences in the field of geosciences that build skills, enhance knowledge, promote research, boost communication and teamwork, and develop their professional network. While experiential learning comes in many forms (e.g., internships, fellowships, and co-production projects), at its core is a focus on connecting learners with real experiences in a safe and supportive environment where advisors/mentors invest in learners to make an impact. This approach allows for creativity, reflection, real-time coaching and feedback to help promote the personal and professional development of learners, and empowers them to see themselves as change agents. This poster session will explore multiple approaches to experiential learning and facilitate a knowledge exchange between those working in different sectors. Through a facilitated discussion, panelists will highlight implementation approaches, impacts and benefits, inclusivity and equity, challenges, and lessons learned.
