Vulnerability of Seasonally Dry Tropical Forests in the face of increasing Human and Climate Change impacts

Session ID#: 123815

Session Description:
Seasonally Dry Tropical Forests (SDTF) are one of the most threatened ecosystems in the world and play an important role in the carbon and water cycles and the regulation of regional climate across tropical and subtropical regions. However, climate change, through the intensification and increasing frequency of extreme weather events, and increasing forest degradation by anthropogenic activities, threaten SDTF ecosystem services. We seek contributions exploring how climatic anomalies and natural/anthropogenic disturbances alter ecosystem processes, facilitating the detection and assessment of SDTF vulnerabilities by addressing themes like:

  • Remote sensing and/or ground-based observation analyses of SDTF responses to changes in Land Use/Land cover, extreme weather events or both;
  • Modeling approaches to detect and forecast changes in SDTF responses to anthropogenic and climatic impacts;
  • Synthesis works across local or regional SDTF responses to human and/or climatic drivers.

We welcome and encourage participation from researchers and students from Latin-American, Asian and African Institutions.
