AGU-EGU-JpGU Great Debate: The Role of Scholarly Societies in the Anthropocene
Session ID#: 123959
Session Description:
Scholarly societies have traditionally been focused primarily on advancing their science, advocating for funding and support, developing talent, and facilitating communication. Given the challenges of the Anthropocene and UN sustainability goals, and deep role of science, and especially Earth, environmental, and space science in our shared future, what roles should societies take and how should that role be supported? Can and should they act more collectively? What new leadership is required. This session will bring together leaders of major societies in a panel format to "debate" this challenge.
