Equatorial, low-, and mid-latitude electrodynamics

Session ID#: 123996

Session Description:
The neutral-wind-driven dynamo is a primary mechanism driving variability in the ionosphere-thermosphere system. Unprecedented datasets have recently become available to study ionospheric electrodynamics (e.g., ICON, Swarm, COSMIC-2, and sounding rockets), while analysis of existing datasets continues to yield new insights (e.g., CHAMP, ROCSAT, radars, and FPIs). This session welcomes observational and modeling studies related to the dynamo at equatorial, low, and mid latitudes. The focus is on phenomena well represented by electrostatic theory (including but not limited to ionospheric current systems, the prereversal enhancement, MSTIDs, and vertical electrodynamic coupling in quiet and storm times).
